Luis Buendía
Biography:
Luis Buendía began sculpting with plasticine as a child and quickly gained recognition in national art contests. After excelling in both art and boxing in school, a pivotal meeting with Eddy Castle led him to pursue the visual arts professionally. In 1996, he studied sculpture and painting at the Instituto Cultural Cabañas, eventually leaving school to assist renowned artist Alejandro Colunga for 12 years—an experience that shaped his mastery and unique style.
Today, Buendía is celebrated for his expressionist realism, blending classical technique with emotional depth. His serene figures, rendered with powerful light and shadow, evoke reflection and inner calm. Over 25 years, he has developed a distinct mixed-media approach that sets him apart, earning him acclaim in top galleries across Mexico and growing success abroad.
